معرفی
Nikolas Kaltsoyannis is Professor and Head of Computational & Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Manchester, where he also serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Radiochemistry Research. His research employs quantum chemical techniques to study electronic structure and reactivity across the periodic table, with particular focus on f-elements and molecular catalysis.
Education:
- DPhil in Chemistry, University of Oxford (1992)
- BA in Chemistry, University of Oxford (1989)
Research focuses on computational investigations of actinide/lanthanide chemistry, molecular catalysis, and surface interactions. Key areas include:
- Electronic structure of f-element complexes
- Catalytic mechanisms in molecular systems
- Nuclear material behavior under extreme conditions
- Quantum chemical method development
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on actinide chemistry and materials, with computational studies of nuclear fuel materials (ThO2, PuO2), surface adsorption phenomena, and novel actinide cluster compounds. Emerging themes include environmental behavior of radionuclides and quantum chemical modeling of heavy element systems.
Research leadership includes supervision of computational chemistry teams and collaborations with national laboratories. Current projects investigate helium migration in nuclear waste forms and actinide incorporation in mineral matrices.
