Nikolaos Tziolas is an Assistant Professor at the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC), part of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). His research focuses on integrating artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, and Earth Observation (EO) technologies to enhance soil monitoring and precision agriculture.
His work emphasizes soil health, carbon sequestration, and environmental sustainability, with a particular interest in leveraging federated learning, hyperspectral imaging, and satellite data to develop scalable solutions. Tziolas has pioneered projects such as the European Soil Organic Carbon Monitoring System and Co-Design Living Labs, bridging technological innovation with stakeholder collaboration in agriculture.
Notable contributions include advancements in soil spectral libraries, user-friendly AI tools for soil monitoring, and precision agriculture strategies. His research spans soil erosion control, biochar applications, and machine learning-driven soil property prediction.
