Dr. Nikolaos Tzemos is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. His research focuses on cardiovascular imaging, myocardial infarction prognosis, hypertension, and heart failure. He has contributed to high-impact studies on coronary CT angiography, cardiac MRI, and non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular diseases. His work emphasizes the application of advanced imaging techniques to improve clinical outcomes and risk stratification.
Key research interests include the prognostic value of imaging biomarkers, such as late gadolinium enhancement and T1/T2 mapping, in conditions like ST-elevation myocardial infarction and dilated cardiomyopathy. He has also explored the role of CT coronary angiography in diagnosing coronary artery disease and predicting cardiovascular events. His studies often integrate multimodal imaging approaches (e.g., echocardiography, cardiac MRI) to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient management.
Dr. Tzemos has published extensively in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, European Heart Journal, and Circulation. His research spans topics like endothelial dysfunction in hypertension, post-infarction remodeling, and the pathophysiology of congenital heart defects. He collaborates on large-scale trials like the SCOT-HEART study, evaluating CT angiography in chest pain patients.
