Nikolaos (Nikos) Trichakis holds the J.C. Penney Professorship of Management and serves as Professor of Operations Management at MIT Sloan School of Management, alongside his role as Associate Dean for Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing at MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. He previously taught at Harvard Business School and worked in quantitative finance at SunGard APT in London.
He earned a BS in electrical and computer engineering from Aristotle University (Greece), followed by MS degrees from Stanford University and Imperial College London, and a PhD in operations research from MIT.
His research focuses on optimization under uncertainty and data-driven analytics, with applications in healthcare (e.g., organ allocation policies), supply chain management, and finance. Key themes include fairness-efficiency tradeoffs in resource allocation and ethical AI integration.
Trichakis has received numerous awards including the 2020 Koopman Prize, 2021 Digital Teaching Award, and multiple INFORMS honors. His work has advanced national organ allocation policies and developed tools like the OPOM model for liver transplant mortality prediction.
His advisory work bridges theoretical research and practical implementation, emphasizing ethical considerations in computational systems. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving public health, machine learning, and decision support systems.
