Prof. Dr. phil. Nikola Kompa is a full professor of Theoretical Philosophy (W3) at the University of Osnabrück's Institute of Philosophy, serving on the Examination Board since 2011. His work focuses on language & cognition, political epistemology, and 18th-century philosophy. He holds a PhD (1998) and Habilitation (2008) from the University of Muenster, with prior roles including Assistant Professor at the University of Bern (2009–2011) and positions at the Universities of Muenster and Munich.
Research interests include inner speech, metaphor analysis, bad language phenomena, language evolution, and situated cognition. He has held visiting positions at New York University (1999–2000; 2002) and secured major grants, including a DFG/FWF project on Inner Speech (2023–2026) and leadership in the DFG Research Training Group 'Situated Cognition' (2017–2026).
Notable awards include the 2009 Excellence in Academic Research Prize. He serves on the DFG Review Board for Philosophy (2020–2024), reviews for journals like Erkenntnis and Synthese, and edits Abstracta and Grazer Philosophische Studien.
