Nikola Banovic

Nikola Banovic is an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on computational interaction, explainable AI, and responsible AI design. He holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and directs projects on AI trustworthiness and human behavior modeling.

Research explores how AI systems influence user decisions, with emphasis on transparency, deception, and bias detection. Recent work includes frameworks for auditing algorithmic systems and modeling user routines from behavioral data.

Publications address AI explainability gaps and user-centric evaluation methods. A 2023 study demonstrated how untrustworthy AI can exploit transparency to deceive users.
