Niki-Marie Jansson is a practicing architect and Part-Time Lecturer at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Newcastle University. She co-leads an MArch design studio with Dr. Christos Kakalis, focusing on vernacular architecture as a landscaping process through material and placemaking lenses. Her research centers on sustainable masonry construction, emphasizing holistic systems thinking and innovative specification frameworks for indigenous stone. She contributes to architectural education as a visiting tutor and critic at London universities.
- Education: BSc (Hons) Architecture (RIBA Part 1) from Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (2012-2015); MArch (Distinction) (RIBA Part 2) from Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (2017-2019)
Her research explores traditional, contemporary, and emerging masonry techniques to enhance whole-life environmental performance in new-build dwellings. Recent publications address stone-thinking methodologies, material complexity, and educational approaches integrating quarries into design processes.
Supported by the Northern Bridge Consortium (Collaborative Doctoral Award), Jansson bridges material innovation, sustainability, and architectural education while participating in mentorship initiatives.
