معرفی
Nigel Willby is a Professor in Freshwater Science and Associate Dean of Research at the University of Stirling's Biological and Environmental Sciences school. His roles include academic leadership and advancing freshwater ecological research. He holds a PhD from the University of Liverpool (1989–1994) and has held progressively senior roles since 1994, including NERC Independent Fellow and Senior Lecturer positions.
His research focuses on freshwater ecosystem management, ecological resilience, and rewilding, particularly the role of beavers as ecological engineers. Key areas include biomonitoring, invasive species impacts, and the application of remote sensing for environmental change detection. He has secured funding from NERC, the Environment Agency, SEPA, and Scottish Water.
Research themes include trait-based approaches to species-environment relationships, aquatic vegetation macroecology, and the ecological effects of beaver reintroduction. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects like Floating Treatment Wetlands and biodiversity trend assessments. His work emphasizes practical solutions for sustainable freshwater management.
