Professor Nigel Davies serves as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic Development) at Lancaster University, where he is also a faculty member in the Department of Computing and Communications within the Faculty of Science and Technology. His leadership extends to heading research initiatives and departmental responsibilities while maintaining an active research program.
Professor Davies' research focuses on privacy in pervasive computing environments, with particular expertise in privacy mediators, consent models, and blockchain applications for data management. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implementations, often in collaboration with leading institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, University of Edinburgh, and USI Switzerland. His research spans both foundational privacy concepts and emerging challenges in augmented memory systems.
His publication record shows consistent contributions to the field, highlighted by the highly influential 2003 paper 'Preserving privacy in environments with location-based applications' which has garnered 427 citations. Recent work demonstrates a strategic shift toward blockchain applications for medical data management and privacy-preserving systems, with multiple ongoing projects extending through 2027.
