Professor Nigel Cook is a mineralogist-geologist at the University of Adelaide's School of Chemical Engineering, specializing in complex ore deposits, sulphide mineralogy, and geometallurgy. He holds a PhD from the University of London (1988) and has worked in Canada, Germany, and Norway. Currently a Grant-Funded Researcher (E), he leads the PRIF RCP Industry Consortium 'Unlocking Complex Resources through Lean Processing' and previously directed the ARC Research Hub for Australian Copper-Uranium.
His research focuses on trace element distribution in ores, uranium mineralogy, and critical elements like rare earths. Awards include the Kutina-Smirnov Medal (2018) and recognition as Australia's leading mineralogist (2020-2023). He has advised over 30 students and contributed to projects like the Olympic Dam IOCG deposit's copper isotopic tracking.
Key affiliations include the Institute for Mineral and Energy Resources and editorships of Ore Geology Reviews. His work spans ore genesis, nanomineralogy, and sustainable space resource extraction insights from terrestrial remote sites.
