Prof. Dr. Niels Pinkwart serves as Professor at Humboldt University of Berlin, heading the research group "Computer Science Education / Computer Science and Society" within the Professional School of Education. He directs the Center of Technology Enhanced Learning and ProMINT Kolleg at HU Berlin, while also holding the position of Scientific Director for the Educational Technology Lab at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). His cross-institutional roles include Visiting Professor at the CATALPA research cluster (FernUniversität in Hagen) for LA DIVA and AI.EDU projects, plus Principal Investigator positions at the Einstein Center Digital Future and Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society.
His research program centers on Educational Technologies with deep specialization in Computer Science Education and Learning Analytics, examining how artificial intelligence transforms pedagogical approaches through initiatives like AI.EDU. Prof. Pinkwart actively investigates societal dimensions of technology-enhanced learning while advancing Technology Enhanced Learning frameworks through the ProMINT Kolleg. His leadership in international forums includes organizing the LAK 2020 and DELFI-GMW 2019 conferences, reflecting significant contributions to educational data mining and learning analytics.
With over 200 publications spanning his career, Prof. Pinkwart has secured and led numerous research projects in educational technologies. He currently chairs the Learning Analytics working group within the German Computer Science Society (GI) and serves on the executive committee for their Educational Technologies department, driving national research agendas.
His laboratory ecosystem integrates the DFKI's Educational Technology Lab with CATALPA's collaborative projects, where LA DIVA explores adaptive learning systems and AI.EDU develops artificial intelligence education frameworks. These initiatives operate through HU Berlin's Center of Technology Enhanced Learning, which implements research findings into practical educational innovations across the Professional School of Education.
