Nicolette Larder

Dr. Nicolette Larder is a Lecturer at the University of New England, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education and the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on the social dynamics of global agri-food systems, rural and regional studies, and postcapitalist economies.

Her research explores the intersection of food production with environmental crises (land/water scarcity, food insecurity) and social inequality, grounded in political economy, community economies, and financialisation frameworks. Projects span Australia, Mali, Senegal, the UK, and Germany, employing qualitative fieldwork and cross-cultural methods. Current work examines financialisation in Australian agriculture via investment banks and sovereign wealth funds.

Dr. Larder is involved in community economies research and Australasian early-career urban research initiatives. Her future work includes comparative studies of food sovereignty movements in Australia and North Africa, and evaluations of urban food-banks in Australia.
