Dr. Nicolette David is a Lecturer at Birkbeck, University of London, within the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication. She specializes in psychoanalytic literary criticism, focusing on themes of violence, gender, and the body in 20th-century literature. Her research employs Kleinian theory to analyze texts by authors such as Thomas Mann, Arthur Schnitzler, and Nathalie Sarraute.
Her scholarly work spans articles in PsyArt and French Studies, as well as a monograph Love, Hate and Literature (2003) and a chapter on Émile Zola's Germinal in The Nineteenth-Century Novel: Realisms. She currently supervises doctoral research on Italian American gender violence narratives and has mentored at least one completed PhD (Maureen Watkins, 2018).
Research Interests: Kleinian psychoanalysis, feminist critique, violence in literature, body politics, modernist and contemporary narratives.
