Nicole von Langsdorff

Nicole von Langsdorff is a Professor in the Department of Social Work at the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt. Her academic career spans over two decades, with a focus on child and youth welfare, intersectionality, and social inequality. She has held leadership roles such as Vice Dean (2017–2021) and actively contributes to institutional governance as an elected member of the Senate (2015–2017, 2021–present) and Department Council (since 2017).

• Born in 1971, she holds a PhD from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (2012) and a Diploma in Social Work from Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences (1997).

Her research explores intersectional dynamics in youth welfare, gender-based violence, and participatory practices. Key projects include the 2023–2025 international study on students’ self-positioning in Germany and South Africa, and she collaborates on racism-critical social work curriculum development with UWC South Africa. She has led student and teacher exchanges with Leiden University (Netherlands) and Lucerne University (Switzerland).

In teaching, she offers courses on theories of social work, gender-based violence, and child protection. Her publications analyze educational support systems, foster care tensions, and civil status law implications for social work. She has presented at national and international conferences, including the University of the Western Cape (2020), Goethe University Frankfurt (2019), and annual DGSA congresses. Her work emphasizes qualitative methodologies and practical applications of intersectional frameworks.
