Nicole Torres-Tamayo, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Evolutionary Morphology Group at the University of Zurich. Her research focuses on human and primate morphology, with expertise in 3D geometric morphometrics and virtual anthropology. She specializes in studying pelvic and torso morphology, Neanderthal anatomy, and evolutionary adaptations.
Her work integrates fossil analysis, comparative anatomy, and advanced computational methods to explore topics such as pelvic evolution, sexual dimorphism, and body shape changes in hominins. Key contributions include reconstructions of the Turkana Boy (KNM-WT 15000) and Neanderthal fossils from El Sidrón, Spain. She advocates for open-access virtual anthropology tools and has published extensively on paleoenvironmental reconstructions using morphological data.
Her research spans evolutionary medicine, biomechanics, and functional morphology, with applications to both ancient fossils and modern populations. She collaborates internationally, including with institutions like the Spanish National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN).
