Nicole O'Brien, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at Suffolk University. Her research focuses on the intersection of information technology, healthcare systems, and user behavior, particularly examining AI’s influence on decision-making and electronic health systems. She holds a PhD from McMaster University and additional degrees from Brock University, complemented by SAP Blockchain and Analytics certifications.
Dr. O’Brien serves on editorial review boards for journals like the International Journal of Healthcare Information Systems and Informatics and actively reviews for the Journal of Applied Gerontology. In 2023, she received the Immersive Learning Teaching Award for her pedagogical contributions. Her work bridges technology adoption challenges in healthcare, AI ethics, and digital wellness.
Her research spans studies on AI’s role in education, digital detox strategies, and social media’s impact on older adults’ social capital. She has published in venues such as the Journal for Research and Practice in College Teaching and Gerontechnology Journal. Courses taught include Data and Decision Analysis, Management Information Systems, and Business Intelligence.
