Nicole McPherson

Dr. Nicole McPherson is a Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide, leading the Sperm and Embryo Biology Group within the Freemasons Centre for Male Health and Wellbeing, Robinson Research Institute, and Discipline of Reproduction and Development. As Director of Research at Genea (Australia’s leading IVF company), she integrates clinical and experimental research to address male fertility, pre-conception health, and IVF advancements. Her lab is located in the Adelaide Health and Medical Science Building.

Her research focuses on male-centric pre-conception health strategies, sperm’s role in embryonic reprogramming, and IVF optimization. Key projects include investigating sperm microRNA effects on chronic disease susceptibility, microgravity impacts on fertility (via collaborations with space agencies), and developing consumer products to enhance sperm function. She also pioneers emotional support programs for infertile men through participatory-action research.

Dr. McPherson holds NHMRC and ARC fellowships, with publications spanning 20+ years on paternal obesity, IVF innovations, and transgenerational health programming. Her lab employs cutting-edge tools like 3D clinostats for microgravity simulation and molecular interventions to improve fertility outcomes.
