Nicole Beamish, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. She holds a PhD from Queen’s University, an MScPT from Queen’s University, and a BKin (Hons) from McMaster University. Her research focuses on enhancing women’s health through exercise during pregnancy and the postpartum period, with a particular emphasis on abdominal and lumbar spine musculature, chronic disease management, and establishing postpartum physical activity guidelines. She teaches undergraduate courses including HLTH 200, KNPE 355, KNPE 356, and KNPE 400.
Her research interests include the effects of pregnancy on musculature, postpartum exercise guidelines, and the role of physical activity in improving maternal health outcomes. Notable projects involve systematic reviews on postpartum exercise impacts and international guideline development for physical activity in postpartum care.
Her recent publications (2020–2025) address topics such as diastasis recti abdominis, postpartum musculoskeletal health, and clinician competencies for refugees. She has collaborated on guidelines for postpartum physical activity and prescreening protocols. Her work bridges clinical practice and research to inform evidence-based interventions for maternal well-being.
