Nicolas VIEILLE

Nicolas VIEILLE is a Professor of Economics and Decision Sciences at HEC Paris. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics (1992, Université Paris VI) and a Habilitation à diriger des recherches (1998, Université Paris Dauphine). His research focuses on game theory, probability theory, and stochastic processes, with contributions to economic theory and operations research.

Education: Ecole Normale Supérieure (1989), Aggregation de Mathématiques (1989), Ph.D. in Mathematics (1992), Habilitation (1998). Academic roles include Area Editor for Mathematics of Operations Research and editorial board memberships at Games and Economic Behavior, International Journal of Game Theory, and Annales d'Economie et de Statistiques.

Research Interests: His work addresses stochastic games, social learning dynamics, strategic experimentation, and equilibrium analysis under uncertainty. Notable contributions include the analysis of information aggregation in changing environments and the study of bureaucratic feasibility in decision-making frameworks.

Awards: 2003 Lanchester Prize (Operations Research), 2011 HEC Researcher of the Year Award, 2021 Econometric Society Fellowship.

Leadership: Co-directeur of the Hi!Paris research center (2021–present). Organized conferences including the 20th International Conference on Game Theory (2010) and the Trimester Program on Stochastic Dynamics in Economics (2013).
