Nicolas Corradi is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on the genomics of fungi, particularly arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and microsporidia. He leads a lab that combines genomic sequencing, bioinformatics, and experimental methods to study symbiotic relationships, genome evolution, and microbial adaptation. Corradi's work has been supported by grants from NSERC, CIFAR, MITACS, and provincial/federal funding bodies.
Research Interests: Genomics of fungi, evolution of genomes, phylogenomics, bioinformatics, comparative genomics of plant symbionts, and parasite genome evolution. Recent studies emphasize AMF nuclear dynamics, transposable element regulation, and symbiotic interactions with host plants.
Key Achievements: Published over 70 papers on AMF and microsporidia genomics, including seminal work on Geosiphon pyriformis and Rhizophagus irregularis. Lab members have secured prestigious fellowships (e.g., Marie-Curie) and awards. Active collaborations with industry partners to translate discoveries into agricultural solutions.
Lab Team: Supervises PhD students (e.g., Gokalp Yildirir, Vasilis Kokkoris, Stephanie Mathieu) and master's students (Essam Sorwar). Hosted postdocs like Jordana Olivera and supported undergraduate researchers through NSERC-USRA and Mitacs programs.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the University of Ottawa Biology Department and affiliated with CIFAR's Integrated Microbiome Program. Maintains active partnerships with Agriculture Canada and international institutions.
