Research Interests:
Nicolas Coeurdacier's research focuses on international macroeconomics and finance, with particular emphasis on international financial integration, capital flows, and the economic consequences of demographic ageing. His work investigates how demographic shifts impact global capital markets, housing markets, and economic growth patterns. He has developed theoretical frameworks to understand portfolio allocation across countries and the implications for risk sharing in the global economy.
His research on spatial macroeconomics examines the relationship between structural change, land use, and urban expansion, providing insights into how demographic factors influence city growth and housing costs. Coeurdacier's work on China's one-child policy has shed light on the demographic determinants of household saving behavior, contributing significantly to our understanding of the "saving puzzle" in emerging economies.
Publication Trends:
Analysis of Professor Coeurdacier's recent publications reveals a strong focus on the intersection of demographics and international finance. His work increasingly examines how aging populations affect capital flows between countries and how demographic policies like China's one-child policy influence household saving decisions. More recently, his research has expanded into spatial economics, investigating the connections between structural economic change, land use patterns, and urban development. His methodological approach combines theoretical modeling with empirical analysis, often using macroeconomic data to test hypotheses about international portfolio allocation and risk sharing.
Scientific Awards:
- ANR "Chaire d'Excellence" grant (2010-13) for project on International Portfolios and Risk-Sharing
- ERC Starting Grant (2014-18) for project "Within and across countries Heterogeneity in International Finance (INFINHET)"
- CEPR Research Fellow
