Nicolas Choquette-Levy will join The Pennsylvania State University's Department of Geosciences as an Assistant Professor in January 2025. He is currently a Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell University's Department of Global Development. His educational background includes a PhD in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy from Princeton University, a Master's in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary, and dual undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering and International Relations from the University of Southern California.
His research develops computational tools (agent-based models, game theory) to analyze climate adaptation policies for vulnerable communities. Key focus areas include:
- Climate-driven migration patterns and livelihood security
- Smallholder farmer decision-making under risk
- Governance frameworks for climate uncertainty
- Interdisciplinary policy design for rural resilience
His publications in journals like Nature Sustainability and Nature Climate Change demonstrate consistent themes of modeling socio-environmental systems, with recent work emphasizing behavioral economics in adaptation strategies and compound climate risks.
He founded the Climate Adaptation Models for Policy (CAMP) Lab at Penn State and is recruiting a PhD student for Fall 2025. He has taught courses at Princeton including 'Jewish Ethics in the Age of Climate Change' and 'Modelling the Earth System', emphasizing interdisciplinary climate solutions.
