Dr. Nicolae Strungaru is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at MacEwan University's Faculty of Arts and Science. He has been a faculty member at MacEwan University since 2010, with a leave period at Trent University between 2015 and 2016. His primary academic affiliation is with MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta where he maintains an active research program and teaching responsibilities.
Education:
- B.Sc. from the University of Bucharest (1999)
- Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (2006)
- Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Victoria
Dr. Strungaru's research focuses on mathematical physics, particularly the diffraction of quasicrystals. His work centers on Meyer sets, almost periodic measures, spectral theory of dynamical systems, and Fourier transform of measures. He has made significant contributions to understanding pure point diffraction and almost periodicity in aperiodic structures. His research combines deep mathematical analysis with applications to physical phenomena in quasicrystals, exploring the mathematical foundations of diffraction patterns in non-periodic structures.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on the mathematical foundations of diffraction theory, particularly examining the connections between almost periodicity, Meyer sets, and pure point spectra. His work spans harmonic analysis, measure theory, and dynamical systems, with applications to understanding the structure of quasicrystals and other aperiodic systems. A notable trend is his investigation of the Eberlein convolution and its applications to diffraction theory, which has become a significant thread in his recent research output.
