Nicola Traverso is an Associate Professor at the Department of Experimental Medicine (DIMES) within the School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Genoa. His teaching responsibilities include Pathophysiology and Clinical Pathology courses across multiple degree programs such as Pharmacy, Medicine and Surgery, and Biomedical Laboratory Techniques.
His research focuses on cancer chemoresistance mechanisms, redox biology, and the role of glutathione in tumor progression. Notably, he investigates how targeting the p53/xCT/GSH axis and modulating BMI-1 expression can overcome drug resistance in hematological malignancies and neuroblastoma.
His recent publications highlight cross-disciplinary themes in pharmacology, molecular oncology, and redox biochemistry, with particular emphasis on ferroptosis induction and thiol metabolism. Current projects include multidisciplinary studies on fiber toxicity and biological interactions.
