Nicola Edwards is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the Game Art and Concept Art for Games and Film Foundation degrees at Staffordshire University. She is affiliated with the School of Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business. Her academic background includes a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Staffordshire University, an MA in Visual Culture from Manchester Metropolitan University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher and Professional Education from Staffordshire University.
Her research and teaching focus on visual analysis, environmental storytelling, traditional art production, and the anthropological dimensions of visual imagery. She specializes in bridging traditional art techniques with digital media, particularly in game and film concept art. Teaching modules include Life Drawing, Digital Painting, Art Theory, and Collaborative Projects.
Nicola’s work has contributed to the University’s recognition, including its ‘Outstanding’ Research Impact rating in The Times Good University Guide 2023 and ‘Internationally Excellent’ Research Excellence Framework 2021 results. She leads the Games and Visual Effects team and oversees curriculum development for foundational art programs.
Her creative practice extends beyond academia, with a vibrant portfolio showcased on ArtStation and Instagram, emphasizing life drawing, digital sculpting, and narrative-driven art. Notable projects include explorations of nostalgia, anatomical studies, and fan art for games like *Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice*.
