Dr Nicola Annels is a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences. Her academic journey includes a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from the University of Southampton (1992-1995) and a PhD in Immunology from the University of Birmingham (1995-1999), where her thesis examined CD8+ T cell responses to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antigens under Prof. Alan Rickinson. She held a postdoctoral position at the CRC Institute for Cancer Studies, University of Birmingham (1999-2000).
Her research focuses on cancer immunology, including vaccine development for ovarian cancer and the role of exercise in enhancing anti-tumor immunity in esophageal adenocarcinoma. Recent work includes a phase II clinical trial evaluating a modified vaccinia Ankara-5T4 vaccine and studies on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in cancer patients.
Dr Annels collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to translational research bridging immunology and oncology. Her publications reflect a commitment to advancing therapeutic strategies in cancer treatment.
