Nick Yablon, Professor of History at the University of Iowa and affiliate of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, specializes in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century U.S. cultural history. His research spans urban history, memory and monument studies, material culture, and the temporal disruptions of modernity. A graduate of the University of Birmingham (BA) and University of Chicago (PhD), he has authored two seminal books: Untimely Ruins (2009) and Remembrance of Things Present (2019).

His NEH and Getty fellowships supported foundational research in historical societies and archives. At Iowa, he teaches courses on urban history, cultural studies, and material history, including “American Monuments” and “History of the Future.”
