Nick Westcott is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS University of London. He holds a PhD in African History from Cambridge University and has extensive diplomatic experience, including roles as British High Commissioner to Ghana and Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Niger. His career includes service in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the European Union's External Action Service, and as Director of the Royal African Society (2017–2023).

Research focuses on African contemporary politics, East African history (especially Tanzania), imperialism, Middle Eastern politics, British foreign policy post-Brexit, and diplomatic theory. He authored Imperialism and Development: the East African Groundnut Scheme and its legacy (2020) and contributed to Managed Economies in World War II (1991). Recent publications include policy briefs on EU-Africa relations and reviews analyzing African demographic trends.
Professional memberships include Chatham House, the Royal Geographical Society, and the Editorial Board of African Affairs. His diplomatic career spans roles in Brussels, Washington, and Africa, with expertise in international negotiations (e.g., Maastricht Treaty, G8 summits) and digital governance as FCO Chief Information Officer.
