Nick Tucker

Dr. Nick Tucker is a Lecturer and Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange at the School of Health, Sciences and Society, University of Suffolk. He specializes in Biomedical Sciences, with teaching responsibilities including Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Research Methods, and Microbial Organisms. He maintains an honorary research affiliation with the University of Strathclyde.

His research focuses on molecular microbiology, particularly the biology of Pseudomonas bacteria. Key interests include:

• Genomic diversity and stress responses of the critical pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa (WHO-listed)
• Utilizing Pseudomonas putida as a solvent-tolerant chassis for sustainable bioproduction of industrial chemicals
• Antibiotic resistance mechanisms and novel therapeutic strategies

His recent publications (2015–2022) predominantly explore bacterial genomics, antibiotic resistance, pathogen evolution, and educational methodologies in microbiology. Trends include high-throughput genomic analyses of Pseudomonas strains and innovative approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Dr. Tucker collaborates with industry and has secured funding from BBSRC, MRC, and the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre. He mentors PhD candidates and serves as an editor for Microbiology and elected member of the Microbiology Society's Prokaryotic Division.
