معرفی
Nick Souter is a Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex. His work focuses on neuroimaging techniques, particularly functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and their environmental impact. He is a core member of the Sussex 4 Day Week team and the Green DiSC initiative, advocating for sustainable research practices. Souter holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience & Neuroimaging from the University of York (2019–2022), an MSc in Applied Neuropsychology from the University of Bristol (2017–2018), and a BSc in Psychology from the University of Bath (2013–2017).
His research integrates cognitive neuroscience with environmental sustainability, analyzing how fMRI data processing contributes to carbon emissions and exploring methods to reduce this footprint. He co-authored influential papers on carbon-efficient neuroimaging pipelines and led workshops on sustainable computing in health research. His interdisciplinary approach bridges brain science and climate action, emphasizing the need for ecologically responsible scientific practices.
Souter collaborates with institutions like the Wellcome Trust and the University of Cambridge, promoting green algorithms and lab efficiency. He actively engages in public discourse through platforms like Bluesky, emphasizing the urgency of mitigating research’s environmental impact while advancing neuroimaging methodologies.
