Nick Silikas is a Professor of Oral Biomaterials Sciences and Head of the Division of Dentistry at the University of Manchester's School of Medical Sciences. He leads a large group of postgraduate research students focusing on dental biomaterials, including resin-composites, ceramics, and implants. His research interests include nanotechnology-based biomaterials, molecular interactions in adhesives, and surface studies of dental materials. He teaches Biomaterials to BDS students and supervises postgraduate programs in Prosthodontics and Implantology.
Education: B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from Manchester Metropolitan University, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester. Professional roles include Head Governor of Ladybridge Primary School and editorial roles in journals like European Journal of Oral Sciences. He collaborates with institutions globally, including Universities in Madrid, Singapore, and Brazil.
Research focuses on advancing biomaterial formulations, adhesive interactions with dental tissues, and polymerization kinetics. Key methodologies include Atomic Force Microscopy and X-ray microtomography. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through advanced materials research.
