معرفی
Professor Nick Gallent is a leading academic in housing and planning at University College London's Bartlett School of Planning, where he holds the position of Professor of Housing and Planning. With over 25 years of continuous service at UCL since 1999, he previously held academic positions at Manchester and Cardiff Universities. His leadership roles include 8 years as Head of the Bartlett School of Planning (2011-2019) and current appointments as Chair of REF2029 Sub-panel 13 and Trustee of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
His educational background includes a PhD from the University of Wales (1995) focused on affordable housing procurement and a BSc (Hons) from Aberystwyth. Gallent maintains fellowships with multiple prestigious institutions including the Royal Town Planning Institute, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Academy of Social Sciences, and Royal Society of Arts.
Gallent's research centers on three interconnected domains: housing policy (particularly affordability crises), rural planning (including restructuring and community impacts), and community governance in planning processes. His work examines the intersection of land economics, housing delivery mechanisms, and rural community wellbeing, with recent publications addressing postcapitalist alternatives and land value recovery mechanisms.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals a strong thematic focus on rural housing delivery challenges, particularly through 'rural exception sites,' alongside theoretical developments in postcapitalist rural economies and community wealth building. His work increasingly integrates land value taxation, commoning practices, and alternative economic models as solutions to housing inequality.
