Dr. Nick Dobbin is a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and Deputy Chair of the Faculty of Health and Education Research Ethics and Governance Committee at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is affiliated with the Department of Health Professions and holds a PhD in Applied Physiology and Sport Performance. His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs in physiotherapy, sport and exercise medicine, and nutrition.
Education: BSc in Sport and Exercise Science with Biological Sciences, MRes in Sport and Exercise Physiology, PhD in Applied Physiology and Sport Performance, PGcert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and HEA fellowship.
His research focuses on elite sports performance, injury prevention, and clinical applications in sport. Key projects include ACL risk interventions in touch rugby, concussion awareness in cricket, and low energy availability in soccer players. He also supervises an NIHR Predoctoral student on cystic fibrosis management.
Awards: Recipient of the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine Award 2023.
Advising and Grants: Current supervision includes 3 PhD students, 9 MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine students, and 6 MSc Pre-Registration students. Completed supervision spans 23 MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine graduates. Active roles as a journal reviewer for British Journal of Sport Medicine, Science and Medicine in Football, and others.
Labs/Teams: Engaged with the Institute of Sport and collaborates with elite sports organizations, private healthcare, and the NHS to bridge research and clinical practice.
