Nick Clare is an Associate Professor in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His research focuses on the intersections of urban geography, migration studies, critical economic geography, and social/labor movements, with a strong emphasis on Latin America and the UK. He combines critical qualitative methods with 'militant research' approaches.
Research interests include housing disadvantage linked to race and class, autonomist Marxist theory applied to urban contexts, and mental health mutual aid in academic settings. His current British Academy Innovation Fellowship project examines racialized housing challenges and collective responses to the cost of living crisis.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on economic geography, urban geographies, and critical migration studies. He supervises PhD students in areas like critical migration, urban social movements, and autonomist Marxism. Key publications include works in Progress in Human Geography, Antipode, and Environment and Planning D.
Publications highlight themes such as class composition in Buenos Aires, spatial analysis of social struggles, and academic 'failure' narratives.
