Nick Brown

Professor Nick Brown serves as Head of the School of Clinical Sciences at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), leading disciplines including Medical Imaging, Optometry, Paramedicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, and Radiation Therapy. Previously, he held roles as Director of the University of Canberra Clinical School and Deputy Director of Performance Science and Innovation at the Australian Institute of Sport. With a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Texas at Austin and post-doctoral work in Bioengineering at the University of Utah, his expertise spans biomechanics, sports science, and clinical innovation.

His research focuses on musculoskeletal biomechanics, sports injury prevention, and rehabilitation robotics. Notable areas include gait rehabilitation robotics using deep reinforcement learning and analysis of diving-related injuries in elite athletes. He has pioneered telehealth competency development in allied health education and explored barriers to intimate partner violence screening in obstetrics.

Professor Brown’s work bridges clinical practice and engineering, evidenced by his development of robotic orthoses and stiffness control strategies for rehabilitation systems. He actively supervises postgraduate research students across Honours, Masters, and PhD levels, fostering innovation in health science and technology.

His academic contributions include over 20 peer-reviewed publications since 2022, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration between biomedical engineering, sports science, and clinical medicine. Current research trends highlight advanced robotics applications, multimodal pain assessment, and telehealth education models.
