Dr. Nick Bertenshaw is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Education, Languages and Linguistics and the Centre for European & International Studies Research. He earned an ESRC-funded PhD from the University of Essex and has been teaching linguistics and English language modules since joining the university in 2009.
- Research focuses on second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, and bilingualism
- Specializes in integrating generative theories of language acquisition with classroom practice
- Teaches modules including Second Language Acquisition (L7), English Forms & Functions (L5), and How Language Works (L4)
In 2012, he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His recent work explores AI literacy and grammar analysis in transformed texts, as well as online processing of binding principles in L2 learners.
