Nichole Nomura is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Stanford University and currently serves as the Associate Director of the Stanford Literary Lab. She holds a PhD in English from Stanford University (2023), a M.A. in Education from Stanford’s Graduate School of Education (2019), and a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego (2015). Her dissertation, titled Science Fiction's Pedagogy: Didactic Models and Experiential Simulations, explores intersections of literature and education.
Her research focuses on how literature teaches and is taught, with emphases on science fiction, Young Adult Literature, and digital humanities methodologies. Current projects include Curricular Reading, a book project advocating for reading literature through curricular frameworks, and collaborations designing digital humanities curricula for middle schools and mapping disciplinary landscapes in English Language Arts curricula.
Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford’s Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA) as part of the Mellon Sawyer Seminar “The Data that Divides Us.”
