Dr. Nicholas Swim is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the University of Maine’s Maine Business School. Prior to this role, he served as a Lecturer in Sport Administration at the University of Louisville, where he earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development (2023). His research focuses on socio-cultural dimensions of sport, particularly DEI initiatives in intercollegiate athletics, student-athlete experiences, and gender equity. He employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, with a primary emphasis on phenomenology and epistemology.
Dr. Swim holds a B.S. in Management from Castleton University (2016), an M.S. in Sport Administration from Ball State University (2019), and a Ph.D. from the University of Louisville (2023). He teaches courses such as Intro to Sport Management and Special Topics in Sport Communication. His work has been recognized with awards including the University of Louisville’s Student Champion (2022–2023) and the 2022 Dr. Gerald S. Gurney Research Award from NACADA.
His research explores barriers to DEI implementation in athletics, female international student-athlete transitions, and the intersection of racial justice and sport structures during crises like the pandemic. Collaborative projects highlight his commitment to advancing DEI and athlete well-being through interdisciplinary approaches.
