Nicholas Roe is the Wardlaw Professor of English Literature at the University of St Andrews, School of English. His research focuses on Romantic literature, particularly John Keats, Leigh Hunt, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and William Wordsworth. He has authored influential biographies such as John Keats: A New Life and Fiery Heart: The First Life of Leigh Hunt. Roe holds prestigious fellowships, including Fellow of the British Academy and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Education: MA and DPhil from the University of Oxford. Notable roles include founding the StAnza Poetry Festival, co-founding the journal Romanticism, and serving as a trustee for the Keats-Shelley Memorial Association and The Wordsworth Trust. His recent publications explore Keats's medical interests and Romantic-era Scottish influences.
Awards include the Keats-Shelley Association of America Distinguished Scholar Award (2014) and honorary professorships at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (2021). He has lectured globally and edited key works on Romantic literature.
