Nicholas P. Guehlstorf is a Professor of Political Science and Environmental Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), affiliated with the Environmental Resources and Policy program.
His research focuses on the integration of democratic values into environmental policy, with particular attention to:
- Theoretical problems with citizen involvement in environmental decision-making
- Economic development considerations
- Role of scientific information in policy processes
- Applicability of deliberative democracy theories to environmental problems
Dr. Guehlstorf teaches courses in Environmental Politics, American Political Ideas, Environmental Law, and Environmental Sciences Graduate Seminar. His scholarly approach emphasizes that "the equitable process of making natural resource and pollution protection decisions with adequate citizens interests is more important than sustainable policy outcomes."

He is an active supporter of the Children's Tumor Foundation and maintains a personal life with his wife of over twenty-five years and their four children.
