Nicholas H. Skefos

Dr. Nicholas H. Skefos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School, part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). He serves as the Director of Student Counseling Services at UTHealth Houston, providing psychiatric care for students across six graduate schools: McGovern Medical School, School of Dentistry, Cizik School of Nursing, School of Biomedical Informatics, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and School of Public Health.

Dr. Skefos's clinical expertise spans multiple domains of psychiatry:

• Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
• ADHD (particularly complex cases)
• Autism Spectrum Disorders
• Mood Disorders
• Anxiety Disorders
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Psychosis

He has a special interest in treating young adults functioning in high-stress environments including college and graduate students, healthcare professionals, executives, and athletes who face challenges related to stress, burnout, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship issues, grief/loss, and chronic health issues.

Dr. Skefos is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology – Board Certified Psychiatrist with extensive clinical experience treating patients with complex medical and psychiatric conditions across various settings including consultation/liaison, emergency, outpatient, and inpatient psychiatry services.

His professional journey includes:

• Undergraduate degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University (SMU)
• Medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM)
• General Psychiatry Residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
• Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Harvard Medical School - Boston Children's Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow for Inpatient Psychiatric Services
