Associate Professor Nicholas Gilson is affiliated with the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences at the University of Queensland and serves as a Core Member of the Centre for Community Health and Wellbeing. With a background in Human Movement Studies and Exercise Science, he has held academic positions at Leeds Metropolitan University and Liverpool Hope University College before joining UQ in 2008.
Research Interests:
- Internationally recognized expertise in occupational physical activity and sedentary behavior
- Focus on health and productivity outcomes for office workers, truck drivers, and veterans
- Development of digital health solutions (e.g., Fitbits, chatbots) to combat physical inactivity
- Leadership in multi-disciplinary health interventions and implementation science
Notable Trends: His work spans workplace health interventions, sedentary behavior reduction, and cardiometabolic risk mitigation. Recent studies include cluster-controlled trials for truck drivers and veteran populations, with a strong emphasis on digital tools and evidence-based policy development.
