Nicholas F. Stump is a Faculty Member and Head of Research and Reference Services at the George R. Farmer Jr. Library, West Virginia University College of Law. He serves as an Associate with the Oxford Human Rights Hub and contributes to the Law and Political Economy Project. His work integrates critical environmental law, Appalachian studies, and law and social movements frameworks.

Stump's research explores intersections of environmental justice, socioeconomic equity, and grassroots legal activism in Appalachia. He has written extensively on topics including the human right to a healthy environment, food deserts in Appalachia, and critical legal research methodologies. His scholarship appears in journals like William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review, Loyola Los Angeles Law Review, and American University Journal on Gender, Social Policy & Law.
He teaches courses in legal research with specialized focus areas in administrative law, energy law, and Appalachian legal studies. Stump's recent publications examine UN environmental rights frameworks, democratic transformations in law libraries, and the application of critical research strategies to systemic reform.
