Niall Mac Dowell

Niall Mac Dowell is a Chartered Engineer and Professor of Future Energy Systems at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He is a Fellow of both the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

His research focuses on the transition to a low carbon economy, with expertise in CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage), CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal), and energy policy. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed works and served as a science advisor to venture capital firms, private equity funds, and global banks.

Niall has received multiple accolades, including the Qatar Petroleum Medal (2010), IChemE Nicklin Medal (2015), and IChemE Junior Moulton Medal (2021). He has held advisory roles at TotalEnergies, the Norwegian CCS Research Centre, and contributed to the UK’s Net Zero Strategy during a two-year secondment to BEIS.
