Dr Niall Gildea is a Lecturer in English at the School of Humanities, York St John University. He holds a PhD from the University of London and has previously taught at Lancaster University. His research focuses on modern and contemporary literary theory, including Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction, Richard Wollheim’s philosophical contributions, and the crisis in English Literature’s self-conception. He is particularly interested in post-critical literary scholarship and interdisciplinary psychoanalytic thought.

Research Interests:
Dr Gildea’s work explores the intersections of literary theory, philosophy, and cultural studies. His recent projects include an An Introduction to Literary Post-Criticism (forthcoming) and editing Raymond Williams and Structures of Feeling. He has published extensively on Derrida, Wollheim, and thinkers like Mark Fisher and Melanie Klein. His research often addresses questions of institutional legitimacy, the genesis of epistemic frameworks, and the affective dimensions of intellectual history.
Professional Activities:
He co-organizes the Interdisciplinary Psychoanalytic Thought research network and the Interdisciplinary Seminars in Psychoanalysis at St John’s College, Oxford. He also led the Richard Wollheim Centenary Project, supported by the Independent Social Research Foundation and Royal Institute of Philosophy.
