Nesrin Varol

Associate Professor Nesrin Varol is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney's Central Clinical School, Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology. Her primary roles involve clinical teaching and research in reproductive health, particularly focusing on female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) and its intersections with cultural practices. She collaborates with the Department of Health and Aged Care (Federal) and the Office of Global and Research Engagement on grant-funded initiatives.

Her research emphasizes improving healthcare systems' responses to FGM/C, including obstetric care protocols, midwifery training, and policy development. She explores both local Australian contexts and international efforts to abandon FGM/C, with a notable project in East Africa.
