Professor Nerina Scarinci holds the dual role of Head of School in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and Professor in Speech Pathology at The University of Queensland. She leads the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences and oversees Higher Degree Research students. Her career spans over 20 years in clinical and academic roles, focusing on patient- and family-centered care for communication disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Speech Pathology and PhD from UQ.
Research Interests: Her work centers on hearing impairment (paediatric and adult), communication disability management, implementation of family-centered care models, and co-design methodologies. She actively explores telehealth applications, early intervention strategies, and addressing health inequities in diverse populations.
Funding & Grants: Total grant funding exceeds $10.2 million, including leadership roles in NHMRC projects like 'ACE2.0' for hearing loss psychosocial support and initiatives improving accessibility for culturally diverse communities. Notable grants include MRFF Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission funding.
Academic Contributions: Authored/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 2 books, and 9 book chapters. Serves as Associate Editor for International Journal of Audiology and Editorial Consultant for International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology. Active reviewer for major journals including Ear & Hearing and BMC Geriatrics.
