Nerea Martín Calvo

Nerea Martín Calvo, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine & Public Health at the University of Navarra, Faculty of Medicine, and attending pediatrician at the Cancer Center Clínica Universidad de Navarra. She directs the research group Epidemiology & Public Health and leads the SENDO and SANTE projects.

Research Interests

Her work integrates child nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, and artificial intelligence to prevent obesity and chronic disease. She explores:

• lifestyle determinants of childhood adiposity using large prospective cohorts;
• AI-driven prediction models for early overweight;
• innovative insect-based nutrition interventions to combat malnutrition in low-resource settings.

With 96 peer-reviewed articles (28 from SENDO alone), 17 in the top-10 % most cited, an h-index of 26 and >2,700 citations, her research is widely recognised for shaping pediatric dietary guidelines and public-health strategies.

Teaching & Mentoring

Her group operates within the Epidemiology & Public Health laboratory at the University of Navarra, collaborating closely with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Spanish pediatric associations, and international NGOs to implement sustainable nutrition solutions.
