Neng Liu

Neng Liu is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Peking University and Deputy Director of the Center for Sociological Research and Development Studies. He holds an Associate Researcher position with the LIA. His academic career includes roles as PhD supervisor (2013), Professor (2012), and earlier academic ranks at Peking University and the Institute of Sociology and Anthropology. He completed his BA (1992), MA (1995), and PhD (1998) in Sociology from Nankai University and Peking University.

Research focuses on urbanization, social movements, deviance, consumption patterns, youth studies, and public policy evaluation. Key projects include studies on migrant populations, urban social problems, and lifestyle trends. He has consulted for corporations like Coca-Cola, Calbee, and Nokia on consumer behavior and policy analysis.

Publications span books like The Strength of Covenant (2012) and peer-reviewed articles on topics such as juvenile delinquency, rural tax revolts, and digital entertainment consumption. Active in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on urban sociology, social movements, and research methods.
