Dr. Nelson Varas-Díaz is a Professor in the Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University. A social-community psychologist, he examines extremity through lenses of health, disasters, and cultural practices, with NIH-funded research addressing physician migration, solar energy's role in chronic disease management, and communal acupuncture.

Research interests span decolonial approaches to public health, cultural studies of extremity, and innovative visual methods like photovoice. His work bridges health systems analysis with critical cultural studies, particularly focusing on metal music and Latin American cultural resistance.
